Housing

The availability of safe, quality, and affordable housing in a community is crucial to economic and business development efforts. The lack of affordable housing was one of the top five priorities identified in the southeastern region. This was reiterated by a Statewide Housing Needs Analysis that was conducted in June 2003 by the South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA).

In order to begin addressing the affordable housing needs for the region, the South Eastern Development Foundation partnered with USDA Rural Development and its 502 Home Loan Partnership Program to provide loans to low income families. The goal of this program is to provide financing at reasonable rates and terms to families that are looking to obtain homes in rural areas (i.e. outside the city limits of Sioux Falls).

On a project-by-project basis, SECOG staff is also available to provide technical assistance to its membership regarding housing needs assessments and referrals to other technical and financial assistance providers.
